GAINESVILLE, FL -NOVEMBER 5, 2007- Bill Ragan, M.S. acknowledged circadian
desynchronization as being one of the causes of several aircraft accidents over the
years. While the exact cause of these accidents was hard to pinpoint, many of them
were clearly linked to human error.



Lag: A Look at Circadian Desynchronization (ISBN 978-1-4357-0221-9) was focused
mainly on stress that resulted from jet lag, shift work, and fatigue in aviation.
Many of the same principles transfer over to quite well to other industries like
commercial overland transportation, law enforcement, and healthcare.



How much does fatigue cost you? Only the reader will really know, but several
factors that can influence the costs were discussed in this book. While not
intended to be a substitute for a complete consultation by a provider, some relevant
interventions intended to help lower the cost of fatigue were included, as well.



There was hope that some of the well proven fatigue reducing interventions that were
included in this book could be considered for implementation by corporate decision
makers. Also, there was hope that Lag: A Look at Circadian Desynchronization would
act as a catalyst to increase research efforts on some of the more futuristic,
unproven interventions that were the subject of review herein.



Even though the aviation industry has had some of the safest years ever recently,
other industries are not so fortunate. Less under the eye of the public today,
commercial trucking continued to be the most dangerous profession in the United
States in recent years.



Set to be available at bookstores before the 2007 Holiday Season, Lag: A Look at
Circadian Desynchronization will be ready for distribution on November 22, 2007.

ABOUT AUTHOR



Bill Ragan, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, received a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology
from Cleveland State University and a Master's Degree in Psychology from Walden
University. He is a lifetime member of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in
Psychology, a member of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress, and
affiliated with the United States Army Medical Department Regiment. Ragan's
research interests include many aspects of clinical and aviation psychology.



Numerous concepts discussed in this book came from observations Ragan made when he
worked in military aviation. His experiences and training on the Bell UH-1 Huey,
the Bell AH-1 Cobra, and the Bell OH-58 Kiowa helicopters motivated him to pursue
aviation psychology and this investigation into lag.



When he is not conducting research or writing about his findings, Ragan spends his
time SCUBA diving in Florida. He also enjoys traveling and spending time with his
wife and family. A former professional photojournalist and photographer, Ragan was
known in the 1990\'s for being one of the first photographers for The Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio. During his years there, he photographed
popular artists including ZZ Top, Aerosmith, Motley Crue, Bruce Hornsby, Jackson
Browne, The O\'Jays, and many others. This is Ragan's first book.
